Introduction to Two-Over-One

 

Tuedays, 10:00am – 12:30pm, Starting Jan.24, 4 classes.

 

Interested in playing 2/1? Many experts say that's what we should be playing. This four-lesson course designed by Eric Rodwell and Audrey Grant teaches the basics of the increasingly popular system. Only a small modification to Standard American makes it easier to find the right game contract and explore the possibility of slams. The classes include: when to use or not use 2/1, the Forcing Notrump response, other responses, rebids by opener, and slam bidding. Book include. Min Class Size 4, Max 8. Book included. $60 usd. Please reserve. Suitable for advanced beginners, intermediates, or experienced players who are looking to change their game.

Major Suit Raises I - Play Course by ACBL

Tuesdays, 10:30 -12:30 Starting February 21

 

Four-lesson class. Explanation of popular responses to major suit openings. Each lesson included an explananation of the bid and eight pre-dealt hands to play and discuss. Topics include weak raises, weak freaks, limit raises, Forcing raises. Jacoby 2NT, and raises in competition, inlcuding the Jordan convention. Class costs $40usd. Handbook available $10. usd. Min Class Size 4, Max 8.

Major Suit Raises II - Play Course by ACBL

Tuesdays, 10:30 -12:30 Starting March 21, 4 classes

 

Add more conventions to your major suit openings. First class review of basic major suit raises. Other classes include splinter bids, forcing 1 NT, and light third seat openings using Drury. Even if you know these conventions you will have 8 hands in each session to practice bidding and play. Class costs $40 usd. Handbook available $10. usd. Min Class Size 4, Max 8.

Opening Leads 

 

When is it ok to under lead an Ace?

What do you lead when your partner has bid and you have supported?

What differences when leading against contracts of 5 or above?

How does the Rule of Eleven work?

 

The Bridge Club will be sponsoring a class on Opening Leads on 4 Mondays beginning January 30th   from 11am -1230.   The cost of the class will be 400 pesos (Members 300 pesos) for all 4 sessions or 150 pesos for any one session (no member discount).    The sessions will be somewhat stand-alone but attendance at all 4 is recommended.  All net-proceeds will go to the bridge club’s general fund.

 

The class is designed for beginning and intermediate players interested in improving their leads.  The emphasis in the class will be on standard leads and responses.   Each class will include numerous case examples to solve.

 

The 4 sessions will be as follows

 

January 30    Thinking About Opening Leads/leads against No Trump

February 6     Leads against Suit Contracts

February 13   Leads against Pre-empts and Slams

February 20   Responses To Opening Leads

BRIDGE CLASSES – BEGINNERS

 

Play of the Hand - 2nd course in the ACBL Beginners Series, 8 classes

 

Starts Wedneday January 25 10:00-12:30

 

How to take more tricks, including discussion of maintaining entries, finesses, promotion, developing length, trumping and discarding, and of course, making your plan. Each session also includes review of bidding learned in the basic course. 8 Classes $80 usd. Some textbooks avaible $15usd. Prerequisite: Basic Introductory Course (ACBL or Audrey Grant or other)

 

Defense – Third course in the ACBL Beginners Series

Wednesdays, starts March 22 10:00-12:30 (If interest could be started earlier or taught twice a week - call)

 

You play defense half of the time. You'd better get good at this! All the things you need to know: Opening leads, signals, ruffing, finessing, second hand low and third hand high – maybe. Making a defender's plan. Each session also includes review of bidding learned in the basic course. 8 Classes $80 usd. Some used older textbooks available $5usd. Or call about ordering new ones. Prerequisite: Basic Introductory Course (ACBL or Audrey Grant or other)

DOUBLES

 

Mondays, starts February 27 10:00-12:30am. 4 sessions.

 

There are lots of uses for that double card. This class investigates many that you should know. Take-out for three suits, take out for two suits, strong overcalls, penalty. Also the use of the redouble. The Negative double (responder's double) and two-suited overcalls could also be included if interest (Michaels and Unusual NT). Lecture and hands to practice with. Suitable for Advanced Beginners and Intermediates. Min class size 4, max 8.

The Basics
No-Trump Opening Bids and Responses
Major Suit Openings and Responses
Minor Suit Openings Bids and Responses
This series will be immediately followed by 2 continuing sets of more advanced lessons. The cost of $50 ($1000 pesos) will include
a textbook.
